Interview With Lorianna

How long have you been doing what you do, and how did you become a Life and Wellness Coach?

I was strong and independent when I entered college in 2002. I knew I wanted to help others and jumped from one stepping stone to another until I discovered holistic health and wellness.   In 2006, my senior year of college, I received a divine calling to teach others about holistic health and wellness.  This was my dream.

Then, things changed.

Shortly after college, I got married to a stranger and I became a doormat. He destroyed my confidence and I lost my purpose. I was depressed and confused, feeling like I had to be perfect all the time. My energy was completely devoted to keeping him happy. I couldn’t think, couldn’t dream, and was just a shell in survival mode.

Over the years, I became completely controlled by my spouse, and allowing him and everyone else to walk all over me, even if they didn’t mean to. I had no confidence in myself. I was gaining weight and hurt everywhere. Even though I was tired all the time, I couldn’t sleep because of the anxiety and depression.

Those years of living in fear and avoiding conflict… it got the best of me. I didn’t think I was worthy of anything.

I was terrified to say “no.” I stayed chronically stressed out, used, and abused. I had always been a people-pleaser, but it became an enabling factor to domestic abuse. I was afraid to stand up to my abuser, and I had lost myself trying to please him.

I tried self-medicating with food and sugar for a while. I went to counseling but was frustrated when they couldn’t fix my problems. I seemed to think just going was enough. I wanted them to wave a magic wand and make my life better. I bought and read dozens and dozens of self-help books, but I was just spinning my wheels, not understanding what I needed to do.

Emotional eating and sugar addiction made me gain weight and feel bad about myself. I tried cutting out sugar and lost a ton of weight, but I ended up craving it more. I stayed in that abusive marriage because I was afraid of putting myself first. I tried to use boundaries because that’s what the counselors and books said, but had no clue how to do it, and was afraid to enforce them anyway. They were more like suggestions and requests than real boundaries. I wanted to be free from stress, depression, and oppression but didn’t realize it was up to me to make that happen.

I finally realized I couldn’t live the rest of my life like this.

One day, someone helped me see that I was afraid to be happy and afraid to let someone else be unhappy. I was taking responsibility for other people’s choices and happiness, but not my own. I was so afraid to make the changes and claim my freedom and independence, because I didn’t know what was on the other side. I was scared it would backfire. I was afraid that I would fail and then be worse off than I was before. I was afraid to face my fears of letting someone else be angry and see me as being selfish.

Fear and anxiety utterly controlled me. I tried to change, but couldn’t face my fears.

One day in 2017 while driving home from my office I felt the undeniable call from God telling me to love myself like He loved me and start allowing my health and life to be a priority. He had more for me than the life of a doormat. Once I accepted and made the decision to change, I knew my life depended on it. I dug in deep and did the hard work. I faced and conquered those fears, accepted my own responsibility for happiness, and released myself from needing to please others at my own expense. I learned what it meant to have boundaries and finally understood how to use them to protect myself from others.

This is when I learned how to be a goal achiever instead of a people-pleaser. I stopped being a doormat and became a doorway. I found my inner warrior voice and started using it to own my identity. I fell in love with myself and realized my true worth as a child of God.

Joy, freedom, confidence, and independence came flooding in. I began managing my stress and learned how to walk through fire without being burned. The emotional eating and sugar addiction were replaced and I no longer needed food to comfort me. I finally stopped avoiding conflict and instead navigated it safely. I even strengthened my relationships with other people in my life.

Once it “clicked”, people began noticing what a huge change I had made. I became passionate about helping other women push past the same roadblocks and experience the same freedom and joy that I had. I answered my calling to be the people-helper and goal-achiever God created me to be. My purpose naturally began oozing out of me and could not be contained. The calling from 2002 was manifesting..

Today, I’ve earned the certifications I longed to have for years.I show other people-pleasing women how they can do the same. I watch their confidence rise, voices speak up, and lives become full of purpose, empowerment, and joy!

I have since made a commitment to dedicate the rest of my professional life to helping other people-pleasing women achieve an empowered life of personal freedom and confidence to be the person God created them to be, living the purpose He created them for.

Since then, I’ve worked with many private clients, authored a book, and began living my dream life working from home, lifting up and supporting other powerful women, paying off debt, and never being used or abused again. I have created The Freedom Project to guide other women down the same journey and path I took to take my power back and live wild and free.

The Freedom Project is a series of 10 coaching sessions accompanied by personal journal prompts and an intensive workbook, along with webinars and courses. It’s filled with tips and exercises every people-pleasing woman needs to apply to achieve personal freedom, empowerment to be who you are without fear of what others think, and stop being a doormat.  .

Who are your clients?

I work with people just like you: people-pleasers who love helping others, but have lost themselves and can’t achieve their goals and dreams in life due to being used and abused, leading to overwhelming stress and strained relationships. My clients are:

  • Women who have goals and dreams for their life, but are held back by everyone’s opinions and expectations
  • Women who feel like doormats at work, home, church, and communities
  • Women who feel underappreciated and undervalued
  • Women who are struggling to be who they are
  • Women who want to really love themselves and stop putting everyone else’s happiness and opinions before their own
  • Women who are emotional eaters to cope with the stress and anxiety in their lives
  • Women who are ready to start that new chapter in their life, but don’t really know how to do it.

What makes you different from other “Holistic Life and Wellness Coaches”?

I focus on a whole-person holistic approach to life change, meaning we look at how this one problem affects every area of your life. I combine life coaching for success and purpose with wellness coaching for your complete health and well-being.

We will discuss and address 8 dimensions of wellness so that you come out of your program feeling empowered as a complete person, ready to take on and change the world. I incorporate my faith in the Lord to be your holistic life and wellness coach and your spiritual mentor. I coach my clients to do the hard work just like I did, so you know you achieved real healing. I share real, practical, and even tangible techniques to empower you and push you towards success. I specialize in stress management and overcoming fear to create major breakthroughs in every area of your life, so you can finally meet your goals and dreams!

I’m concerned with how to get your power back into your own hands, and your voice heard, to feel energized, confident, healthy, complete, and balanced,.

There may be times that you may not like what I have to tell you – but you can be sure I will always tell you the truth. The truth about what’s standing in the way of your success and how to get rid of it FAST so you can start seeing real change and empowerment. I give real tangible tools to help you get past roadblocks in your life, and really dig in deep to unlock your inner strong woman. I consider my relationship with clients to be a partnership and I work closely with you, giving you transparency and honesty. I will pray with you, pray for you, and push you with loving motivation and sometimes a kick in the rear if you need it!

What type of personality do you work best with and what is expected of me?

The Freedom Project program was created for people who are absolutely excited and serious about taking their power back and living their lives wild and free. This means not running around all day long, beating yourself up anymore saying: “I’m just too tired and depressed to change..” It was created for you to put systems in place immediately , which will eventually lead you to confidence, self-worth, and healthy boundaries.

Being a determined and driven woman myself, I’m known to work best with other like-minded women, people who are committed to their success no matter what, who are super-ready to get going and just want to know exactly what steps to take to be empowered and live their calling with fearless confidence and freedom. My clients often tell me – “just tell me what to do and I’ll do it!” Consider what you’ll do with me to be a high-octane crash course on everything you need to know to experience breakthroughs and overcome fears and roadblocks . You will be expected to roll up your sleeves and take serious and consistent action. No excuses anymore, just a very different way of thinking and you’ll have full support while you achieve this incredibly exciting goal: Live your purpose wild and free, tackling your personal goals and dreams and actually meeting them!

Please know I’m very selective in who I work with and I cherry-pick my clients, choosing to (gently) turn away people who aren’t suited for my programs and won’t get the results for which they would have signed up for. (It wouldn’t be fair to them.) The Freedom Project programs are NOT for those who are currently in severe domestic abuse relationships, especially physical ones, but I can give you resources. It is also not for someone who is not ready to let go of their past and move forward into their future.

The Freedom Project programs are for those ready to make serious change, women who have committed to the process. It’s been my experience that people still in severely abusive situations are not financially stable enough to pay for the program and many do not trust the recommendations I give them and do not do the work (probably because they are not safe to do so because of the abuser.). If you fall within this category, it’s absolutely OK. The last thing I ever want to do is create more problems for someone being abused. I have been there myself, and I understand the phases we go through to be ready  Do yourself (2) favors:

  1. Contact your local domestic violence shelter or the National Domestic Violence hotline (800-799-7233) for help in getting out. When you’re out and safe, I encourage you to call me. This will position you to begin your personal growth process without added tension and take the edge off to provide a little more peace of mind. Mostly, it will make it more safe to focus on your Freedom Project assignments and the BIG picture. Once you start experiencing breakthroughs and identifying triggers, you’ll never look back!
  2. Head over to Stand Up Survivor and connect for support and encouragement until you’re ready for coaching

Doing these two things will really help you get primed for our work. When you’re ready, call me and we’ll get you started. (I’m in no rush and will be here when you need me.) Other types of personalities I won’t work with (without exception) are the whiner, those who are looking for a quick fix, or the chronic skeptic, as well as individuals who consistently make excuses for not getting their assignments done or challenging every aspect of the program. If you are one of these people, I gently and respectfully ask that you not call and I hope you understand why. We’ll probably just not work well together and I wouldn’t want you to waste your time or money. Is that fair?

Then feel free to email or call them and ask what they got from working with me and my programs.

How quickly can I expect results?

That depends on how quickly you can make those inner shifts. Some clients are ready to speak out and start using their voice in a very short time frame, sometimes even a few weeks while others have a bit more work to do first. Do all of your homework. Be totally committed to your success. Understand that this is a process, a proven one, that works if you take action and implement all of the steps.
